Friends of Masoala
The "Friends of Masoala National Park", also referred to as the "Friends of Masoala", wish to procure financial or other means in view of stopping the destruction of the Masoala Rainforest with various activities.
The deployment of independent park guards should serve to protect the Masoala Rainforest against poachers, illegal lumbering, and slash-and-burn. Because poverty and the destruction of nature go hand in hand, it is absolutely necessary to introduce measures that contribute to an improvement of the livelihood of the population. It is therefore in model businesses and by means of schooling that the population is shown how the soil can be utilized substantially and how ecotourism can prove to be an additional source of income. Village communities are motivated to adopt environmentally-sound behavior and it is at schools that young people are taught how important it is to protect the rainforest.
